¤It was Monday January the 14th and I purposely decided not to call Blessing. I was trying to give her some time to settle down before making any further moves. Precisely on Tuesday evening of that week, a text message arrived on my mobile… guess who it was from? BLESSING! She was "kinda" thanking me for the help I rendered her and stuff like that. Nna ehn, my head swelled (in my minds eye) like a "puff-puff", I quickly rushed out and bought a 100naira worth airtime from the last N1000 I had. I can't dull now na. however, not to be perceived as overly ambitious, I just "chillaxed" till about an hours time before putting the call through.
"Hello", I heard her crispy voice say after about 2 buzzzing sounds while it connected, whilst my heart was pounding through it all. Choiii!!! At the sound of her voice, all I heard rehearsed to say, just vanished as if through tiny pores in my Afro as even my palms became sweaty despite the cold harmattan of the Nsukka weather. To worsen the situation, my throat seemed to had been filled with a thousand little pebbles, and all I could hear my rusty voice blurt out was "where you dey?"…. choi! I don fuck up! I thought to myself, now she would think am a real jerk!
As if not to care, Blessing, replied "GOOD EVENING, DAURLING" yes! She pronounced it that way and not "darling" as we all know it. Kai! At once it just felt as if I had been given some alcohol, and we started to relate… as per my confidence being revamped, I ask her If she would not mind for us to hang out on Thursday evening, to which she told me that Thursday would be choked up for her, 'cos she always made her nails that day (SMH….Women!). we fixed a meeting for Saturday, in her hostel… which would mark the beginning of a lot to gist about.. till next week…
